General Information
The standard test (Listening, Reading, Writing & Speaking) costs £118 GBP per attempt.

If the university you are applying to has signed up to our Referral Service, you may be able to take Kaplan Test of English at a discounted rate. Please check the university’s English language requirements page, or contact them directly for more information.
There is no minimum or maximum word count for the Writing Section. The section is timed, and you will have 35-40 minutes to complete the section.
The Reading and Listening sections are graded automatically by the testing platform.
The speaking and writing sections are graded by a human grader, according to these criteria:
• Speaking: Overall Response, Linguistic Range and Accuracy, Fluency
• Writing: Overall Response, Linguistic Range and Accuracy, Coherence and Cohesion
We don’t automatically share your test outcome with anyone else so you would need to arrange this directly with your chosen university. If a university contacts us to verify your test outcome, we may share your results.
You are not permitted to take multiple tests at the same time. Our test is adaptive so we would recommend that you wait for the feedback and recommendations from our Grading Team, so you’re better prepared for any further attempts at the test.
The test can then be taken at any time, from any location (with the required internet speed and equipment).
We use an online proctoring service to ensure test security and detect cheating. It checks your identity, locks down your screen and captures videos of your face and testing area while you are taking a test online. Your personal information and videos will only be viewed by the Kaplan Test of English team and will only be used to determine whether your assessment results are valid.

The payment covers one attempt of the test. If you wish to take the test again, please contact us to register and pay for a further attempt.
Test Booking, Registration
There are several types of photo identification that are acceptable:
- Passport
- Driving Licence
- Official student photo ID (University ID, not high school ID)
- Any other government issued ID.
Yes, all payments need to be completed via Flywire, but it does give you the option of paying either by card or direct bank transfer. The quickest way to pay is via a debit/credit card, as bank transfers may take up to 5 working days to be processed.
During the Test
If you have a problem with the eproctoring application, please contact their support team. This team is available at all times and are the best team to support you with technical issues relating to their application.
If you’re in the middle of your test and are experiencing technical issues, we advise that you immediately log out of both your test and the proctoring application and contact us at [email protected]. Emails are monitored Monday to Friday between 9.00 am and 5.00pm (UK time) and we’ll respond as soon as possible.
If your internet connection is affected during the test we recommend logging out of the test and ending the proctoring session. Once your connection has been restored, please follow the steps to login – ensuring that proctoring is running – and continue your test. After you log in, you should be taken back to the question that you were working on before you were disrupted.

You must take the test in one sitting; you cannot leave the test or suspend it prior to completion. The test can be taken at any time (day or night) within 15 days after receiving your log in details, therefore we do recommend that you prepare for the test accordingly.
If you have a medical reason for needing to use the toilet during the test, you can declare this on the booking form. We may be able to make adjustments to suit your requirements.
You must not copy or take screenshots of any part of an assessment, nor reproduce any part of the test. You may, however, use a piece of blank paper during the test to make notes or prepare your response.
You are not allowed to eat, smoke or vape whilst taking the test. Any drinks must be in a clear bottle.
Our test is conducted under exam conditions, and no one else should be in the test environment with you. This is important when you are deciding where you will complete the test. For example, it would not be appropriate to take your test in a busy café or office location where you are likely to be disturbed. If taking the test at home, we recommend that you let family and friends know that they must not come into the room while you are taking the test.
You are not able to go backwards in the test. We recommend that you review your answers carefully before submitting them.
The Speaking section requires the use of consistent and reliable internet to record and upload responses. If you have slow or consistent internet connectivity, the recording could take up to a minute to upload successfully. Please only click the submit button once during this time. If after a minute your response still won’t upload, refresh the page, continue the test, re-record your response, and try submitting again.
When you complete the last section of your test you will see a final screen which confirms that your test has been submitted and there are details of what you can expect from us in the following days. The test is not compatible with iPad/tablet or mobile phones. Please check the technical requirements for a full list of what equipment is required to take the test.
Laptops with dual-screen capability e.g. Asus ZenBook Duo cannot be used as the proctoring software will view this as screen sharing/mirroring and invalidate your test.
Bluetooth devices such as air pods may be used to take the test. Please ensure that any devices you intend to use during the test e.g. headphones, earbuds, microphones etc. are plugged in/switched on and fully charged before you log in.
Your audio must be recorded throughout the test. Please note that some Bluetooth devices will automatically turn off if you remove them, and it is not always possible to re-connect a device while the test is in process. Please ensure that these devices are therefore worn throughout the test.
Test Outcomes & Scores
When your test outcome is ready, you will receive an email with a link for accessing your results – this can be up to 5 working days from the date of your assessment. Please ensure that you add us to your ‘safe sender’ list and check your junk/spam mail in case our email is moved there by your email provider.
When you complete the last section of your test you will see a final screen which confirms that your test has been submitted and there are details of what you can expect from us in the following days. There are a number of ways that your test may be invalidated by our Grading Team. These can include (but are not limited to):
- Plagiarism
- Use of AI software
- Use of pre-planned notes
- Use of a secondary device e.g. mobile phone, tablet, iPad
- Use of a second screen to mirror/share your test.
- Use of an online aid e.g. Grammarly
- Another person being present with you in the test environment.
- Leaving the test environment whilst the test is in progress.
- Your entire face and mouth not being visible at all times during the test (unless an exception for this has been pre-arranged with us)
Occasionally, there are problems with the ID used on the e-proctoring application. The image may be blurry or dated, or the text may be difficult to read. In these instances, a member of our team will email you to request that you forward a copy of your ID.

Universities will need a copy of your test certificate to be able to verify your test results. Please contact your chosen university to find out when and how you will need to submit your certificate to them to support your university application. The university will contact us directly to verify your test scores.
In most instances, if you received an invalid test outcome, you can register and pay for a further attempt. Some invalid test outcomes can result in a permanent suspension from the test. However, candidates are informed by email if they have been suspended.
Normally, when you take a paper-based test in school, every test taker answers the same questions. Kaplan Test of English is different. When you take an adaptive assessment, you answer different questions than other test takers, because the testing system chooses questions that match your English level. To improve your scores we recommend that you undertake some additional English language learning as your test scores are unlikely to change otherwise.
Our test certificates are valid for 2 years from the test completion date.

Unfortunately, we don’t offer a priority grading service at this time.
No. The Main Flight score is calculated based on a formula that takes into account all items on the test as a whole. It is not calculated by averaging the individual skill section scores.
Resits, Regrades, Appeals, Cancellations, Refunds
Unfortunately, the test cannot be booked by sections. The full test comprises of 4 sections – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
Your test can be taken at any time (day or night) within the 15 days after you receive your test logins and test information. If you are unable to complete the test before the expiry date, you may purchase an extension of fifteen (15) further days for £30 by contacting [email protected].
If you need to cancel your test, please contact [email protected] for further information on how to request a refund. Please note that refunds requests made outside the 14-day ‘cooling-off’ period will be subject to a £10 administrative fee. You can appeal an outcome decision within 14 days of receiving your test outcome. Please note that while your test is being reviewed, you are not permitted to book another test and we will not be able to verify your scores for any external organisation. For further information, please click HERE
If you are unhappy with your Writing or Speaking test score you may request a regrade. Regrade requests cost £25 per section and are completed within 21 days. For further information, please click here. The Listening and Reading sections can’t be regraded, as these sections are automatically scored by the testing platform.
